First Study Visit in Croatia took place

The first Study Visit in Croatia within the Europen Union Lifelong Learning Programme, organised by the Croatian Academic and Research Network, CARNet, began on 10th October 2011 and lasted until Friday, 14th October 2011.

 


The first day of the study visit, participants were greeted and welcomed on behalf of CARNet by the CARNet CEO, Zvonimir Stanić. On behalf of the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes that coordinates study visits at the national level as part of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union, Ms. Dragana Glivetić also greeted the participants. During the first day, participants had the opportunity to learn about CARNet as an institution and hear about activities and projects of the CARNet's education support department.

Professor Vedran Mornar, Ph.D., presented to the participants the system of the state final exam and enrolment in higher education institutions. On the first day participants visited the University Computing Centre – SRCE – where the CEO Zoran Bekić, Ph.D., introduced them to the role of Srce at the University of Zagreb and beyond. The head of the Centre for e-learning, Sandra Kučina Softić, presented the activities of the Centre and the international project entitled "Education Quality Improvement by the e-learning Technology" (EQIBELT). On this occasion, the visitors had the opportunity to look around the Srce computer hall and get acquainted with other resources at Srce. At the end of the working day, some participants had the opportunity to present themselves and the institution they came from. The second part of participants' presentations will take place on the fourth day of the visit.

On 11th October study visit participants went to Rijeka where they learned about the project of introducing e-learning to the University of Rijeka and visited "Rikard Katalinić Jeretov" primary school in Opatija which presented the GLOBE project and the way they implemented e-learning in their school.

By the end of the study visit, participants visited the Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and the elementary school Horvati in Zagreb. Through videoconference presentation, participants were introduced to the collaboration between the school Veliki Bukovec and schools in Croatia and the world and E-medica - project connecting medical schools from the Republic of Croatia and abroad for enhancing quality of vocational education through ICT usage of the medical high school "Ante Kuzmanić" in Zadar. On the last day of the visit participants were introduced to the project of the School of Medicine in Zagreb - InterMeCo – interactive medical schools.

As part of the study visit, participants also had the chance to visit the president of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Ivo Josipović, who recognised the importance of this event. As part of the Study Visit entitled "Improving learning and teaching by institutional collaboration supported by the ICT", CARNet hosted a group of fifteen participants from European countries in the Lifelong Learning Programme ranging from the leaders of educational institutions or their departments, professors, teachers, researchers, consultants and representatives of educational organisations, to local and regional government. Participants come from the following countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the Great Britain.

The aim of the study visit is to show examples of good practice of cooperation between educational institutions, from primary and secondary schools to higher education and commercial companies, with a focus on innovative application of information and communication technologies in order to improve inter-institutional cooperation.
